Winter One Hour Series
We’ve come up with a list of outdoor experiences and exercise that you can do in one hour. You may even find that two hours have gone by in a flash! You can enjoy fun winter experiences at both campuses: the arboretum and the botanical gardens.
Light Therapy Walks – When the sun is out this winter, it’s time to hop in the car and head out for a walk or hike. Walk your 10,000 steps a day with us! Even one hour of sunshine is a noted mood-booster.
Twinkle Treelight Walks – This winter select woodland paths will be transformed as trees of all shapes and sizes are lit with twinkle lights at the botanical garden. Check cbgarden.org for evening hours and fun outdoor experiences during the Glow event!
Cold Picnics – If it’s above freezing, it’s a great day for a cold weather picnic! You heard it here first: picnics are going to be a thing this winter. Grab a waterproof winter blanket (available on Amazon) and pack hot soup and sandwiches and don’t forget the hot chocolate!
Bird Watching – Without leaves on trees, birds are much easier to spot and can often be found searching for winter berries to snack on. Pick up a pair of binoculars and come see what you can spot on our campuses. Check out our birding check list located at holdenarb.org..
Search for animal tracks – From chipmunks and squirrels to elusive coyotes, fresh snow provides a road map for animal tracks. What tracks can you and your family spot in the snow? What animals do you think they belong to?
