Handpainting on Silk @ Cleveland Botanical Garden

Discover the joy of silk painting, a medium like watercolor but more forgiving. Complete two 26-inch square scarves or 11-inch by 60-inch banners to take home. All levels of artistic ability are welcome. Materials included.

Instructor Bio

Gunter Schwegler is a fiber artist specializing in silk painting. His work in watercolor, acrylic and oil painting formed the basis of his style and technique. His recent work includes framed silk paintings, wearable art, banners, stage and set design, home furnishings, CD covers and public art space. His work is featured in “Creative Silk Painting” by Jan Janis and Diane Tuckman.

Botanical Painting and Drawing Session II @ Cleveland Botanical Garden

Learn composition skills and techniques of botanicals, including line, form, shading and layering using inspiration from the gardens and glasshouses. All experience levels and mediums are welcome.

Instructor Bio

Susan Gray Bé earned her M.A. in painting at the State University of New York at Albany, a B.A. of Studio Art at Hamilton College and studied at National Academy School of Fine Arts, University of Vermont and The Rhode Island School of Design. She currently teaches at the Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland  Botanical Garden, Holden Arboretum, and BAYarts.

Introduction to the Art of Ikebana @ Cleveland Botanical Garden

In this introductory class, explore the disciplines, values and fundamental techniques of ikebana. Participants need to bring their own pruners, as well as their own vase or glass in which to take their flowers home.

Learn how to keep your plants looking fresh flourishing. Master gardeners answer gardening questions and plant identification inquiries on select Saturdays from March through October.

Spring Tonics and Their Benefits @ Cleveland Botanical Garden
May 2 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

This class will highlight several plants growing around you this spring and show you the value of each medicinally and nutritionally. Colvin will talk about each and demonstrate how to make chickweed pesto foraged from her property and a chickweed oxymel (medicinal herbal extract using apple cider vinegar with honey). Each participant will leave with handouts to take home, along with a 2 oz. bottle of chickweed oxymel.

Mother’s Day Blooms to Go @ Cleveland Botanical Garden

Sponsored by Smithers-Oasis Co. and Mayesh Wholesale Florist, this annual tradition allows you to make colorful flower arrangements that will be donated to a local women’s shelter for Mother’s Day. No experience is necessary. Bring pruners and gardening gloves if you have them.

Instructor Bio

Sifu Rikk Mayr, Director of The Neijia Academy, has studied martial arts, Taoism and Buddhism for 18 years. Sifu Rikk holds a 3rd degree Black Belt in Chinese Boxing and the title of High Instructor from Grandmaster Hu Wei-Yue. In 2007, he was ordained as a Buddhist Monk in the Nien-Fo Ch’an Order by Venerable Shih Ying-Fa of CloudWater Zendo.
